Yes, but "-as 5" makes it wait for 5 seconds before releasing the
device. We could switch to "-as 1" to limit the problems caused by esd.

Ok, maybe you could try to contact the spca5xx (that's your webcam
driver) and ask him about V4L2.
But I'm using the same driver (with a different webcam) and everything
works fine here, so you shouldn't worry too much :-
