I'm also using Unity. The problem seems a little bit random and I couldn't identify nothing in the logs that justified it... My GPU is an intel combined with a Nvidia 310m... I blacklisted nouveau at first, but the problem still happens... I'm also not using nvidia closed source driver... -- Yo

I have the same behavior in Hardy! The laptop is an ASUS Z96J. Neither the slider that controls brightness in AC mode works, nor the display is set to of (DPMS off) on timeout. The light stays always on maximum... The button shortcuts in the keyboard work nevertheless... Everything worked before

Now I have a problem... I have an Asus Z96J and now the slider that controls brightness doesn't work and also, the display never enters DPMS off with timeout. The backlight always stays on... The keyboard controls work, but gnome power-manager is completely wrong in what related to the backlight.
