I finally got around to creating a sample PPSX on my brother's computer.
The file is identical to pptx, or at least can be opened as such by OO.o

just removed their own ultra-generic "text-x-generic" fallback that had
nothing to do with the fallbacks defined in the shared MIME database, so
this fix seems OK.

I can still open Word templates from Nautilus after I manually remove
those entries. If you remove those lines from openoffice.org-common.xml,
Nautilus will be fine, because it's the .desktop files that say to
Nautilus what a given application can open.
