Removing xfce4-indicator-plugin and indicator-application fixed not only
network-manager's menu, but also Skype and any other menu that I see.
(I would've liked having the indicator sound menu, but it's not worth
it.)

Selecting the first item from
$ zenity --list --column "Item" Apples Oranges Pears Toothpaste
now returns
`Apples|Apples`
while in 3.6 it returned just `Apples`.
Similarly,
$ zenity --list --column "id" --column "Item" 1 Apples 2 Oranges 3 Pears 4
Toothpaste
now retur
Note: when upgrading to 12.10, it tries to remove XFCE from the list and
add MATE (though asks you whether to accept the change). So I'm guessing
this bug is still open.
