GTK and other libraries, so it would take a huge effort to properly

As of 25 September, GDM in karmic doesn't start up unless nameservers
are set.
When I attempt to restart GDM, I receive the following message:

It started today after I upgraded my karmic installation to the newest
packages. My last upgrade was in the last two days or so.

I can confirm this bug. I've encountered it several times when logging
in on a thin client. Without clicking on anything, 3-5 Nautilus windows
will pop up on login. It is very unpredictable and indeed difficult to
re-produce.
