I have a similar issue. My volume icon is always muted. When I increase the
volume, it goes to back minimum (mute) in a couple mins.

Running Intrepid with GM-PM-2.24.0
The battery icon in gnome-panel is always shown in discharge mode. It
doesn't change on plugging/unplugging power cord. The only way to
confirm it is charging or discharging is to left click on it.
Well apparently this issue has been solved with recent update. AFAIK it
showed up when the previous update broke GPM . It was corrected
afterwards.

GPM doesn't recognize TP UltraBay battery. I use T61p with ThinkPad
41U4890 battery. When UltraBay battery is inserted icon on gnome panel
shows that computer is working on AC. It shows only one battery present
which status is charged
Apparently GPM needs to be restarted in order to recognize second
battery. The issue needs further investigation.

I tried to pinpoint the problem. Here are my findings:
When booting laptop with UltraBay battery inserted gnome-power-manager
recognizes 2 batteries properly. It even supports hot-swapping. You can
remove the UltraBay battery and plug-in dvd and it is fully recognized.

Pop-up boxes like those which are shown in yellow boxes when you put
cursor on sth. For examaple a speaker icon in gnome-panel (it shows
volume in %) or mozilla shortcut in gnome-panel (there is a description
in yellow box) or "switch between workspaces".
