Oddly enough, my font sizing issues dissapered as soon as I removed the
ttf-mscorefonts-installer under Ubuntu. My guess is there's actually a

I can't work around the issue. All I've done to cause the problem is to
migrate my home directory from under jaunty to a brand new karmic
install. Theme switching works correctly under the original home
directory in jaunty.
After booting Karmic for the first time, the theme reverted to the
default

doesn't respect the system-wide keyboard layout as the default.

A few things related I've noticed about this issue.
1) While the lid is closed, the screen is actually left on, meaning it's
still drawing power. Makes this a little more severe, and explains why
my battery's been dying so much faster than I expected.

I wrote up a script that I call on opening URL's instead of calling
firefox directly. It checks to see if there's a firefox window on the
current desktop. If there is one, it'll focus it, and open the URL in a
new tab there. If there isn't one, it'll just open a new window right
where you are.

laptop screen as the primary monitor, and then use the VGA for a
projector display. Many people like to use a laptop at a desktop
workstation, in which case the external display should be primary,
because it's larger and better

This bug is blocking https://bugs.launchpad.net/null/+bug/474906 , which
is intended to make xchat-gnome and xchat behave more like empathy,
"closing" to the messaging menu.
The attached patch for this and the attached patch for 474906 makes the
problem go away in xchat-
Nothing for xchat-gtk currently. I spent a few minutes looking for the
right place to hook into the window-close process, but didn't see an
obvious spot.

I'll confirm that Martin's updated patch, in conjunction with the fix
for the zero-rows bug, has brought the gnome workspace switcher back to
completely normal behavior using Openbox.

Workaround #1 isn't acceptable (I need compositing for other apps).
Workaround #2 means whenever flash crashes, it crashes the entire browser, also
not acceptable.
Workaround #3 didn't stop epiphany-browser from having this problem.
Is there another workaround I should be using to get epiphany to
I get this with openbox running under gnome as well, so I don't think
it's a compiz bug.

indicator applet's "new message" icon is completely nullified, because
