I've formated mine many times over, and am still experiencing the same
problem. I am currently dualbooting though, with all the drivers and FS
aps on XP, so maybe you're on to something.

I installed and booted with the current kernel (2.6.35-999-generic).
Nothing changed and /sys/class/backlight is still empty.

Also here is the Windows application for using the keys, prepackaged by
Fujitsu Siemens. I don't know if this can help somehow, but it might
come in handy. :)
