I've found that removing the package rhythmbox-plugins via Synaptic
seems to fix this problem. I'll attach a Valgrind log soon.

My Synaptic doesn't list -dbg versions of libusb (I have both
libusb-0.1-4 and libusb-1.0-0 installed, no -dbg packages for either),
so I installed libusb-dev and libusb-1.0-0-dev with the hope that the
development packages will have the necessary debug symbols. Synaptic
also doesn't list a libmtp-
I added the ddeb source and installed the debug packages as instructed.

I completely removed (purged) rhythmbox, its plugins, and everything
that was autoremovable after removing rhythmbox and its plugins, then I
reinstalled rhythmbox and plugins. Now rhythmbox works just fine for me.

Rhythmbox is no longer crashing for me; this bug and the one in the
valgrind log seem to have been recently sorted out, although I don't
remember installing any Rhythmbox updates. I'm leaving this bug open for
now in case I do encounter it again.

I can confirm what Mike said about the mtpdevice plugin: re-enabling it
makes Rhythmbox crash again, and disabling it stops the crashing.
