Ok i'm trying that but if I follow the steps, gdb hangs too..
This is all I get, after that I have to try alot to get gdb to exit.
$ gdb empathy 2>&1 | tee ~/gdb-empathy.txt
(gdb) handle SIG33 pass nostop noprint

That is because I couldn't do that anymore; like I said: gdb hangs too..

1) Launch Keyboard Shortcuts
2) Choose shortcut switch to workspace 1
3) Press shift+alt+F12
4) Choose shortcut switch to workspace 1
5) Press backspace
6) close the window
7) the shortcut is still active

When trying to open http://ian.rave.org/~icorne/earthFull.png
on my laptop with 4gb ram on 11.10 I get a very high memory usage.
When I open the same file on natty, it only uses 1gb ram.

Don't really know how to reproduce this though. It doesn't always happen.
gnome-settings-daemon is started when my session starts, correct?
The link Sebastien provided tells me to start the program in gdb. Where
do i change how it is run?

In my case it was console-kit-daemon that i disabled. In gutsy there
were no problems if you disable it, in hardy the unlock doesn't work.
