I have this flashes on the screen when ATI/AMD proprietary fglrx driver is
enabled. Clicking on the "display" from the menu or give the command from
terminal give me flashes on the screen and the application crashes and I have
to kill it.

Obviously disabling the driver it works all fine.

First of all sorry for the late reply. Yeah, the testing partition where I used
to test jaunty from the beginning seems to works correctly! So.. don't know
what happens..

First of all I'm sorry for the really really late reply.
I tried to purge and reinstall both packages and so also main packages like
gnome and all dependencies but it doesn't work.
I'm running Ubuntu 386 on a amd64 processor. Do you mean that?

Chris, purging and reinstalling libpango1.0-0 it give me a lot of things to
purge and reinstall, like gnome, and so on..
doing that and reinstalling all the packages nothing happens, gnome-panel don't
want to start..
don't know what happens..

upgrading to Intrepid from recovery I obtain an error message..
"The following packages have unmeat dependencies:

Thank you for the advice. Entering in that partition there are no files in
/var/log/dist/upgrade and purging don't works for me.
