That would be a great idea. Not yet an acceptable solution, but at least
give the feeling that the *problem* is officially recognized by the dev
team, and not just a "wish".

Ok folks, their is 3 things that can resume this 200+ messages thread:
1) Many people want a bug fix, not a workarround;
2) The bug is too complex to be fixed by users, and will need a -- if not
many-- really good developper to be fixed;
3) It seems like it's a X / xorg bug, not a Ubuntu or Ubuntu

I also have the same problem with ubuntu, under gnome (nautilus), in french.
I tried to DELETE the file that totem was reading with sudo rm -rf ...
the file was deleted, but totem was impossible to close
tried sudo kill 5565 (the totem process id)
tried sudo pkill totem
