Desktop unit w/dual nvidia cards using the current nvidia driver.
Problem started with updates during the week of 11 to 15 May.
Unit will go to sleep normally & upon wake up will display for about 30~45 secs
& then either blank screen/distort/scramble video.

warning. There NEEDS to be a disclaimer or warning about this--I lost

I had update-manager minimized whilst I was doing a forum posting (about
this problem) & the ?random? typing b0rked things rather well...I
rebooted 7 everything came back---but it now looks more like the Fedora
login--so I would gather that something was lost in passing..

I realize that the new GDM is a "work in progress", but even a simple control
panel for basic changes would be very helpful.

A very simple dialog that would allow lets say up to 30sec for time
delay, choices as to who is default, autologin on/off (maybe a
checkbox), facebrowser on/off (same comment) & maybe a background change
(strictly a wish item)--I could mock something up if you would want

On a "interesting" side-noteI was updating a Jaunty install on my
laptop & saw a "distribution not supported" in the lower pane of Update
Manager---gave me pause--it updated OK, but I was showing Jaunty to a
co-worker & it caused a slightly uneasy

Sebastien--I thought I was clear enough--There now is no way to change
the default sound theme or default alert volume other than thru gconf.
The capplet had a button to enable that control panel--before it, you
could just goto gnome-control-centre and use the control panel. It has
been removed.

As of today's updates I now have a Sound pref panel back in
System>Preferences & yes, it looks like the Intrepid panel. Thank
you...now I at least shut off system sounds when I need to again.

was removed from the GL savers because it caused video problems with
some Intel systems during Intrepid development. I have kept a copy of it
on my system & verify that it still works with nVidia drivers

I just updated my Jaunty install with the new nVidia driver (180.35) and
when I let the system sleep with gnome screensaver, I can not wake the

I will try--but as been said, this happens on a ill-regular basis & when it
occurs, the desktop goes to generic icons & will not respond--you need to do
a hard-reboot to get back & it changes permissions in the system. This,
unless you chmod your system--in effect, locks you out of your install.

I added the sound-theme-freedesktop as per dano's instructions. That "enabled"
the tab (was grayed out before), but if you click on any arrow to test sounds
other that the first one you get a crash. The first arrow plays the demo sound.
