Solved, I was using sudo gconf-editor however, in order to change my
user account I need to run the gconf-editor as me. Makes sense, I guess
I just wasnt on the ball for that one.

Wine doesn't show up anywhere in Gnome-shell as an application.
Those are two of the more egregious examples. I can run them from the
command line. The .desktop entries clearly exist in
/usr/share/applica

Ok, after doing further research, policykit-gnome was not installed on
my xubuntu system. Installing policykit-gnome fixed this problem.
I will report back up through to the Xubuntu team to make sure that
policykit-gnome is included in the xubuntu seeds, as it does not

suspending by closing the lid; if I suspend by using the power button on
the gnome panel, the power button on the laptop, the Function-Suspend

I have two audio outputs available on my laptop. One is an external USB
sound device, my prefered audio output. Rhythmbox uses this okay. The

don't make any difference whatsoever to the brightness when changed.
Either when using AC or battery.
However, using the function keys I can succesfully change the
