Unfortunately I'm just the X guy, I'm not really intimately
knowledgeable about what's going on inside gnome-power-manager so can't
give much advice here on out.
It sort of feels like something is stealing the keyboard/mouse devices
away from X, and then the vt-switch remaps things back together

testing against an earlier 2.6.24 kernel with the same version of gnome-
power-manager may be of use to identify if g-p-m is not bugged.

Do you have an AGP system? If so, does it help if you try some different
AGPMode values? (1,2,4,8)
