Another EDIT: to your last question, the desktop effects are used. It's
just that the radio button does not check permanently. If you don't have
the same problem, maybe you must install from the current intrepid live
CD. I also install from the latest live CD about 5 days ago and have the
same prob
I have the same problem and Ricardo described it pretty accurately. Just
go to "Apperance" "Visual Effects Tab" and no Radio button will be
checked even if you checked one before.

Don't know if this is the right forum for that but here's a shocking
fact (Core 2 Duo machine):
gnome-terminal uses 13.5 MB RAM while
konsole only uses 4.1 MB and
xterm uses 3.4 MB.
gnome-terminal is quite a monster compared to the other two. Even
I'm using hardy at the moment with Gnome 2.22.3.
Is it safe to upgrade to intrepid already?
And what is the best way of doing so (in order to have a smooth transition once
the real intrepid comes out)?

OK, sorry for keeping you busy because of such a small thing. Let me put
it like this:
Regarding these arrows in the main menu, I preferred the hardy font over
the intrepid font. So I guess this is a wish/enhancement. I would like
to have the hardy look back in this particular case, the other one
I still have this problem, cannot play any livestreams with totem.

I am currently able to play livestreams but it's a bit unstable: just had a
complete system crash, had to reboot. The radio was playing "I wish I was a
punk rocker" if that helps. :)
Cannot reproduce as that song is rarely played.
