The same thing happens when a notification is displayed in the upper
part of the Gedit window, for instance when the file has chaned on disk.
The message makes the window wider, something which is unacceptable
since the user should have control over the window size.

When I run
$ /usr/bin/gedit --geometry=600x800+100+100
(with no previous instance of Gedit running) the window is positioned
accordingly but its size is not 600x800 but instead the last size of the
window is retained.

Gedit window resized on save

I also managed to reproduce the bug after logging into a guest account
(with all default settings). Minimum width of a Gedit window is 464
pixels and on save it is enlarged to 479 pixels.
The reason why I'm concerned with this is that I use a tiling window
manager where I want to have control over
Thanks B Clausius for confirming. Indeed the problem is that when the
message "Savi..." doesn't fit in the toolbar the window is widened.

I've had a look at the source code of Gedit 3.4.1 and I can conclude
that the notebook widget or its parent does not transparently inherit
the gray background from its parent widget when a new tab is created.

I can't understand how the developers or testers of the language
selector have missed the very basic test scenario of choosing different
languages for text and numbert etc. and then starting the most commonly
used application: Firefox.

David; my input provided insight into what the end user percieve as a
problem. I think to many it is not clear what this bug is all about. The
testing scenario to reproduce the bug I reported (bug 626722) and which
was considered to be the same as this one by Gunnar Hjalmarsson really
is as trivial
I currently run Gedit 2.30.2 (latest stable release) compiled from
source in Ubuntu 11.10 and I don't have this problem now. If I remember
correctly, with Ubuntu 10.04 the close icon was only cut off in the
default Raleigh theme.

Actually, the button image is the same but it is cut off in different
ways: on the right side for an active tab and on all sides for an
inactive tab (making it look smaller). The problem is that the button

Binary package hint: rhythmbox
The window title should end with the application name, " - Rhythmbox" in
this case. I see no reason for Rhythmbox not to follow this convention.
Without the application name in the title it is much harder to find
Rhythmbox in a list of windows.
I am experiencing this bug in Ubuntu 10.04 as described by willjcroz in
post 24. I think the bug was triggered when I closed GEdit. A Nautilus
window also was open.

When the bug appeared I had not made any theme changes since the Ubuntu
installation. When I opened Appearance Preferences a theme named Custom
