However, the main issue is that it is not ONLY desktop but basically
EVERYWHERE,
so I also cannot drag & drop launcher icons to e.g. start programs.

It actuallyi quite random when a dvi file (I guess it only happens with
included .eps images) crashes at startup or it starts but the images
aren't displayed.
When it crashes at startup I either just get:
fatal internal error -100Segmentation faul
Forgot to add that I am using Ubuntu 10.10 with evince 2.32.0-0ubuntu1

Damn it... I also wanted to mention that those dvi files are displayed
correctly in xdvi

Really, why does GNOME have to remove all options nowadays?
Can't they at least keep various options still available through gconf-editor ?
I mean in Karmic the new login screen already removed various options.

Yeah, I also experience this. I guess it is somehow related to the
preview function for files like images and Videos, as I mostly get it
with them.
