Daniel,
I have never had any gnome extensions installed.
Just to be clear, window focus appears to work as it should for all
windows, i.e., focus is gained as soon as the cursor enters any portion
of the window.

mgag200, but also simpledrm is still active because the Matrox driver
failed to remove it.
Then it looks like the desktop (or login screen even) might have failed
