I can't remember if mirror mode is the expected default for when the
system doesn't recognise a set of monitors. If it's not the default then
it would be harder to explain...

Basically you are saying that the fixes I applied resolve the bug of resetting
to the default configuration which leads to (let's assume) the mirror
configuration.
If this is correct, why the configuration in the display at this point still
shows me the "Extended" co

gnome-extensions disable tiling-assist...@ubuntu.com
and log in again. If that doesn't fix the problem then next time it
happens please run:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
and attach the resulting text file here.

I added a VPN connection through Gnome settings. I configured the user

This was driving me dilly after I upgraded to 24.04. It took me a lot of
searching and trial to work out that this was happening because I was
using my fingerprint to unlock my machine on power up. The Gnome
Fingerprint subsystem does *not* unlock the keyring, for reasons

No problem. It looks like I added "arrow" just to clarify for duplicate
bug reports that this was the first one to report the issue, which most
people associate with arrow keys. So it helps them to find this bug and

Was the dock still connected when you tested HDMI? If so then it might
be keeping the machine awake like a USB mouse would. You can tune that
in:
sudo apt install powertop
sudo powertop
under the 'WakeUp' tab.
