I'm not locking the screen while in the overview.
This happened this morning and I'm not absolutely sure that I'd had

Screen lock crashes after playing full
I can't see any gnome-shell crashes there, but I can see kernel bug
2062426 causing the X server some problems. Please try the workarounds
mentioned in bug 2060268.

I use SSH file mounts in GNOME to go about my daily business.
As of version 24.04 of Ubuntu, navigating to a folder of images and
launching EoG fails to load the whole directory. EoG shows 1/1 files,
and you can't navigate back and forth with the arrows.

1. Open gnome-control-center
2. Navigate to Accessibility => Typing
3. Enable "Sticky keys"
4. Open text editor
5. Press control key twice

It seems that pressing control key twice again gets one back to normal
state. But the bug is that this feature is not documented in the help
page and I didn't find instructions for this anywhere. And the same
