I had again the issue on a other Xubuntu 22.04.4 computer (a desktop).
Here is how I fixed it:
From command line (sudo apt update && upgrade), the same components were again
not updated. So I typed this command line:
$ sudo apt upgrade python3-update-manager update-manager update-manager-core

I had again the issue on a other Xubuntu 22.04.4 computer (a desktop).

From Gnome-software and from command line (sudo apt update && upgrade), the

This problem is only with HDMI cables. I switched to Display port today
and I no longer have that issue.

Thank you Daniel. I removed the now-overruled PPA from earlier in this
thread and directly installed those 4 packages on my 22.04 workstation.
Works great after a reboot.

This is very interesting observation, maybe it'll help devs chase the
bug.
Unfortunately for myself, I have only HDMI both in the notebook and the
docking station.

libnvidia-egl-wayland.so.1.1.13 seems to have solved the freezes for me.
However it has problems when maximizing the window to fullscreen,
leaving the title bar sometimes still redrawing it.

I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04 and could no longer log in. Just
immediately got the sad computer face screen. Can confirm that
installing `breeze` fixed this. I don't really know what's going on but
it seems to provide a functional fallback for when the selected cursor

A further update -- a bit of a hack, but, I liked my "whiteglass"
cursor, and I found that copying its left_ptr and right_ptr files from
/usr/share/icons/whiteglass/cursors overtop of the corresponding ones in
/usr/share/icons/Breeze_Snow/cursors gave me back my whiteglass cursor,
at least for the
