Public bug reported:
Since an ubuntu software update two days ago (see below) evolution

Starting evolution in bash after a fresh reboot yields the error message

Hi,
Thanks for reporting this issue.
I can't seem to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu 22.04. I do see the
"WEBKIT_FORCE_SANDBOX no longer allows disabling the sandbox." message,
which is normal since that workaround is no longer required, but
evolution starts fine and works as expected.

I did as you suggested, but this did not fix the problem.
However, then I tried renaming my "~/.profile" and "~/.bashrc" files and
this solved the problem. Should I be able to figure our which
environmental variable interfered with evolution, I'll report back.

The problem was caused by a line
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=".:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH"
in my ~/.profile file.
Oddly, when I then used ldd to compare the dynamic libraries used by
/usr/bin/evolution in the case where evolution works with the case where
evolution fails, they are exactly the same.

1. This bug happens without screen scale changes, e.g. modal appointment
reminder windows by Evolution regularly start in this screwed up state.
2. Switching screen scales is pretty normal for a production laptop that goes

Hello.
I just realised that I have tried subconsciously several times now to

I encounter this bug in 23.04. On Files, right-click > Open in Terminal.
First time, Terminal is in focus. Second time, Terminal is not in focus.
I often open multiple terminal windows via Files, so this step is very
noticeable for me. I've had this since 22.04, 22.10 and now 23.04. I'm
running X11
The issue is resolved now, but unfortunately I don't have an explanation
as to what fixed it. My suspicion is that one of the recent system
updates must have fixed something. I've updated a few times since
posting this, so unfortunately I can't pinpoint which resulted in the
fix.
