Ubuntu 18.04.1 is coming soon (tomorrow?). What about the bug fixes?
I know a temporary method, but it is not so nice (but it works, saves
~400MB RAM): run after login

killall gnome-software
One more, clear gnome-calendar. It launches automatically, uses
constantly 2-400MB RAM
This is possibly related to bug #1769224.

Actually this a pretty ugly bug. My system halted with no icons left on

left to install the update, even this is actually not the case.
The home folder should be calculated by half because my user has
ecryptfs files and mount
My nextcloud client also refuses to sync...not enough space...

While we're mitigating this error at nautilus level, and while this
should also probably be fixed in gtk (same patch, just changing file
names), I'm quite sure this is due to some lower level problem.
So for now I've also submitted the issue upstream at GLib level:
Perhaps this might be a workaround too?...
Edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncomment the line:
#WaylandEnable=false
Reboot.
