In system with multiple user account with automatic login enabled, automatic
login works as expected, after reboot I get the wayland session for that
account. But when switching to another account there is no Ubuntu desktop
option, only Ubuntu on Xorg, Unity and some others
I had the same problem following an in-place upgrade from Zesty+Unity to
Artful. With the possible exception that my mouse pointer didn't even
change to "the arrow, tempting you" when hovering over the window
border.
I did an apt upgrade, an apt uninstall of *unity*, and a reboot. I can

When switching prime profiles to Intel & using kms for nvidia the
ubuntu session is not
I find that the same happens randomly without automatic login, and
without even logging in a first time. Just randomly some login options
including the Ubuntu wayland one are missing. Have to reboot once or
twice to get the option back.
