thought it was a fix, but if it simply forces skipping the patch, it's
no good for you, of course ;-)
To reproduce the problem you need another partition other than the one
where the user home directory is, and follow these simpl
Steps:
1. Install system and partition disk into root and data partitions
2. create ~/Data folder, and mount data partition on it
3. create symlinks for ~/whatever/ to ~/Data/something/
4. delete files directly inside ~/whatever/

It is indeed happening again for me.
I think that it didn't happen with systemd 232-2git1 and it does again
with 232-3 - I've tried downgrading and upgrading a few times and it was
reliably correlated with that.

I am experiencing the same issue on an up-to-date Ubuntu 16.04 install.
It seems to happen randomly. Nautilus doesn't launch and gives the error
previously reported if launched via command line. A restart fixes it
temporarily.
GNOME nautilus 3.14.3

I am experiencing the same problem on a new install of 16.10 AMD 64 Gateway
laptop. I did report it as a separate bug but I am adding my name to this one
