Using current xenial, I updated vim from gnome-software and got an
notify-osd fallback dialog telling that "vim is installed now" with
buttons for starting/closing the notification ... that's probably
because it uses notifications with actions, the code should the server

I can more or less reliable reproduce the problem when plugging in/off
an external display. Rebooting helps. I don't have any other integration
problems. Just the font changes to the thin one.

This is an alternative to Brian's patch in comment 65. This speeds up
the visitDepthFirst function by caching the result in the inner loop.
This provides a similar speedup without changing the output of
