the error is that output must be string for fout.write() function, since
the file is opened in "text" mode (aka unicode)
I've opted to stay bi-lingual, and instead open the file in binary mode.

It seems there are some kind of glitches, no transparency and menu
flashing.
I've decided to sidegrade to sid packages, which fixed the issue, so i
assume one of the ubuntu patches causes issues.

I am using unity.
I don't know what specific program is responsible for turning the screen off.
`ps` seems to indicate that `gnome-screensaver` is not running, although the
package is installed.
I just uninstalled the package and the behavior did not change.
I guess this is a bug in unity then.

Applications in the default desktop - specifically gnome-disk-utility - depend
on behaviour only introduced in util-linux 2.21+. Specifically if you select
"Show in user interface" in mount options, it adds the mount option
"x-gvfs-show" to the mount options in /
The issue is still here. Do you have any further informations? Or ideas
what I could to isolate the possible issues?

$ gnome-control-center --version
unity-control-center 14.04.3
I cannot reproduce the bug and no warnings appears, so probably it is
fixed at some point.
The weird thing now, it is that the tool reports as unity controll
