tested this quickly, under vivid it was broken in both language selector
and gnome-control-center. with GNOME 3.16 (gnome3-staging PPA) it seems
to work, so its probably a bug in gnome-desktop3 that has been fixed
upstream

I figured out what was wrong.
Actually, gnome does start just fine by just running:
usr/bin/gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback --disable-acceleration-check
The screen resolution did not adjust to the monitor i am using and the
menu just happened to be off screen. The

I decided to check the information in /etc/fstab. The UUID of swap was
incorrect. Gparted did not see the swap partition, so it had no UUID. I
corrected that and entered the correct UUID in fstab and now it boots

Yesterday I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet", and I couldn't
launch a gnome-terminal. Shift+Ctrl+T didn't seem to do anything, nor
did typing "terminal" into the dash. Fortunately, xterm still worked.
Typing "ps aux" (into an xterm terminal) revealed a few instances m
Gnome-terminal indeed removed this feature from the UI. You can still
set the title via escape sequences. E.g. define this function in your
.bashrc:
