@kolen have you got workspaces enabled? If not get the fault condition
then enable workspaces (All settings > Appearance > Behavior) and see if
the window is on another workspace.

The problem is that Ubuntu disables bogofilter in Evolution at build
time passing --disable-bogofilter. This makes libevolution not to
