i was doing a fresh install of 14.04 on a compaq presario cq50, after the
instilation i did an apt-get update then upgrade and i recived this error
I have no idea why this happened, i have been running 14.04 after updating
from 13 and have never had a problem before.

I tried the workaround proposed by thw-th. It works, but only for the
first login. That means the screen configuration is wrong
- on the login screen (gdm)
- after locking the screen and unlocking it again
With lightdm, the login screen works like a charm but the desktop is
affected by the screen

Yup, there's nowhere to drag that tab because the tab bar is not shown.
I don't know what a proper solution could be.
As a workaround, you can open a temporary second tab (next to the one
you wish to drag), then you can drag the desired one and finally close
the temporary one.
