I haven't had that problem with the application menu not showing for a
while now.
The difference might be that I am using
1. Newer hardware with much greater processing amd RAM capacity; or
2. Later versions of the operating system and software.
It doesn't make any difference to me what happens

When I try to add my facebook account to the online accounts in
settings, instead of getting facebook's login page, I get a message like
"Failed to access the application. Sorry, the application you intend to
use does not exist or has been disabled.".
