Thank you for reporting this bug to make Ubuntu even better.
I have failed so far to re-produce this bug. Every time my Ubuntu GNOME
Trusty Tahr system goes to Screen Saver mode, I can re-login very
normally without any issue at all.
I just tested on Ubuntu GNOME Trusty Tahr 20140226 - i386
My Gedit was crashing on startup and giving the following error:-

monitors.xml it shouldn't change the screens configuration but let Xorg
does it work

Yepp, that time line sounds about right to me too.
Given that gnome-terminal 3.6.2-0ubuntu1 is from the 16th of December I
would assume then that the issue is due to some gnome/unity change.
Also, when running gnome-terminal under Xfce the "Enable menu access
keys (such as Alt+F to open the File
And if app can't lose focus ("synapse" for example) keyboard layout will
not switch.
