I believe I have found the solution to this problem, I think it was
caused by an incorrect AppArmor setup.
My home directory is not located in /home/ but the AppArmor
/etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home tunable had not been updated to reflect this as
described in:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingAppa
I discovered how to switch the keyboard layout and other preferences in
Ubuntu 13.10.
Here is what I did -
1. sudo apt-get install ibus-clutter ibus-qt4 (not sure if this step is
necessary, but I noticed these two were missing with my Ubuntu 13.10 install,
even after enabling ibus-chewing)
2.
Hi,
will try this patch soon.
It seems to be nearly my patche + adding unity support. I hope my
patch was a help.
I think in evince there is one big problem:
1) the menubar schould not be visible in fullscreen or presentation
mode and fix the possible fals re arranging of the menubar-/ toolbars
Just to give a pointer on the "use gtk-shell-show-menubars", that's a commit
example from gedit:

The solution provided by Justyn Butler in post #14 works for me.
My home directory is in `/media/home/`, so I've edited the

@{HOMEDIRS}=/home/ /media/home/
After that, you need to reload your apparmor profile:
