As a workaround:
xmodmap -e 'clear Lock' -e 'keycode 0x42 = Escape'
Can be added to a startup script, but it would nice if one could do this
with the system settings tools.

Same here, been like it for well over a year.
I have worked around it with USB dongles but have a (Windows) machine
here that is virused (locked) and need to get my friend's wedding photos
off it - but it destroyed two dongles.
A disc would have helped greatly - fortunately I have an 11.10 disk b
Bounty is now up to $225 USD. Everybody who wants this feature but
doesn't have the skills to code an implementation and submit a patch,
please contribute to the bounty instead.

Nautilus starts with under 300 MB and after thumbnailing some jp2 files (JPEG
2000) memory ends up above 900 MB. Closing all nautilus windows does not
release the memory. Memory is only freed when doing nautilus -q.
The more files is thumbnails the more memory is uses.
