gdm itself doesn't actually need ibus, but the fancy greeter provided by
gnome-shell does. You can verify that by uninstalling gnome-shell & ibus
and login still works.

bug. If you could submit an actual crash report next time, that would
help. Also, gdm is no longer installed by default in Ubuntu 12.04; you
probably are using lightdm.

Well gdm it, if they repeated the process they would have exactly the info they
need. It crashes on more than one system if you try to switch to guest while
logged into another user and then back. It does it ever so often, so if it
fails once, try it again. That should be enough info.
