Side-note: I think it is a false claim to say that "we pull this from
GNOME 3". If you market your own UX, it's your call to make it work. If

I've figured out what triggers the behaviour, it happens whenever we use
the touchscreen.
Best short term solution is to disable the touchscreen. To do this on
Ubuntu 12.04 do the following:

Note that it would be good to have infos on the player used (does it
happen with totem?), it's weird that you need to restart the shell to
get it back working, gstreamer has no real session state, restarting the
player should be enough (or is the player part of the shell for you?)

yes for me - VMWare Workstation 8 installed on as a host on the machine
( including compiled kernel mods ). However, VMWare workstation WAS NOT

I have deleted messages from my inbox
They are moved to the Trash folder.
I can not delete the files in the trash folder at all, currently it is
sitting at 8500 messages and attachments and is eating up space.
I need to empty this folder Expunge does not work.

that's an upstream design bug, we don't plan to distro patch that option
over GNOME, the refresh rate is not revelant for most users especially
in lcd days
