lightdm starts a syndameon instance which is not terminated upon session
startup.
So there is the conflict: two syndaemon instances, one from lightdm and one
from logged in user.
Just experienced this problem after going from gdm back to lightdm.
This does not happen with gdm.

Oh, and this workaround should be fine for all:

time i've seen that is when i uncompress a file with 'special characters
(spanish, hebrew,etc)' into an fat/ntfs filesystem, where are you
