Ah, I didn't realize this at the time, but this bug is actually invalid
as PyGI isn't meant to play nice with static bindings like PyGTK. It
was pretty much by accident when it worked before.
The pygobject version in Oneiric doesn't let you dangerously mix them
anymore:

I've noted an interesting behavior of this bug.
As reported the quick search box disappears immediately after typing 1-2
characters. However, it will start functioning properly when opening a
new nautilus window (with Ctrl+N), but it doesn't start to work when
opening a new tab.

Logged in today to see the good 'ol gnome icon set appear on unity.
This is a fully u-t-d Natty 11.04 with Unity only. This bug is sporadic
and infrequent for me, but definitely exists.

I usually see this happen if my ecryptfs home directory has somehow become
unmounted...
There's an outstanding bug in Sudo 1.8.2 which causes this (and is due to be
fixed in 1.8.3), see Debian bug #639391.

I've pushed a patch to oneiric-proposed (gedit 3.2.1-0ubuntu2) for this.
This bug is a crash regression from 11.04.
To reproduce:
* Select Edit -> Preferences -> Plugins -> Python Console
* Enable it
* Then click its "Preferences" button
gedit will crash, but it shouldn't with this patch.

Same result with a new clean install + gnome3. This does not show up on
either arch linux or fedora, so at this point it's unique to ubuntu as
