I can confirm that this is the observed behavior. (I guess I'm just
twitchy - my scrolls usually don't last that long.) I'd disable gesture
support with --disable-gestures, but that doesn't work either - bug
#876702. Thank goodness it's easy to build custom packages from source.

meant to be sent using the tools so they can be handled in a semi-
automatic way, adding them manually as you did remove most of the
benefits

Hello,
I am unable to replicate this using a clean install. Did you have the
PPA gstreamer or other related repository enabled? You may need to clean
up your PPA repositories and then reinstall necessary software.

When I try to launch seahorse from the commandline, it takes forever to
run because it's trying to check signatures on each key in my public
keyring one by one using commands like this:

Could you remove that nvidia file and see if that "fixes" the issue you
get at home? If it does it means there is a bug in the nvidia tools
which try to apply that configuration when you are not at work and break
other things when it doesn't apply correctly
