I have just installed libimobiledevice 1.1.0-3ubuntu1 from natty-
proposed, and I am still getting the "Unhandled lockdown error" message.
I have tested this after rebooting, and I have upgraded my iphone to iOS
5 released yesterday.

they open in the default music player (Banshee). I tested several video

There are ways to detect this in a VM, yes. It is my understanding that Windows
looks at the video card driver. lspci should give enough info for this. Eg with
