Hi, tried to do as it says in your guide but as soon as I want to start it with
the gdb it tells me gnome-settings-daemon is already running.
If it crashes or I kill it manually with killall gnome-settings-daemon it seems
that it restartes itself before I can start it with debugger attached

I am also not able to login with Empathy IM using my gmail account for

Go to file -> open, browse to /var/log and open Xorg.0.log.old.
System log viewer displays the message:
Can't open /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old
"The file is not a regular file or not a text file"

When editing files with code highlight mode set to "php" (maybe the same
happens with other modes too), gedit sometimes is ridiculously slow to
respond to typing. That is, when you type, the text you type appears
with a very noticeably (and annoying) delay.
