or an admin one, those profiles should handle most of the needs,
especially if the sysadmin can add custom profiles. Is there a real need

This is the screenshot of avaliable resolution after running "xrandr
--output VGA1 --mode 1280x1024"
It's not strange that the current resolution set using xrandr is not
from the available resolutions?
