something similar happened to me. The problem in my case was that I had
KMS disabled (in previous versions it made my graphics to work worse, so
I disabled it). After enable KMS and restart computer, Unity started to
work, and the distortion problem disappeared.

I made a fresh Natty-install on my notebook. The folder
~/.local/share/evolution/addressbook was completely empty. When filling out the
about-me-box, the program can't find the system-address-book and creates a
temporary address-book ins
Forgot to add... this freeze also occurs when the system is switched
from AC to battery power, as well as when it is booted on battery. My
wild guess is that this is related to automatic change to the brightness
settings. Basically the system is not usable on battery power.

upgrade. I'm using the classic interface. When I click on the email icon

Hi Brad, I can confirm that it now works fine with this computer. I'm using an
updated 10.10.
Either a fix was released or the symptom has been shut by some other change.
