Of course, we can pass --force-badname, but if we consider dots as
acceptable, adduser should accept them by default.
About chown, there's absolutely no need to change the tool, as long as
people that add dots to their usernames and use chown from the
commandline know what they are doing. Anyway,

on Ubuntu Maverick,
when trying to create a user, I get a windows which says that I can use special
characters, such as: '.' '-' '_'
In other words, the tools says that I am allowed to use the dot, but this is
slightly wrong.
The dot
I'm on Brasero 2.32 on Maverick and it still happens, no matter what
kind of media I burn. The media always burns successfully so I suppose
it's not much of a problem, just hit cancel.
I like the idea that was suggested above of just relabeling the button
"continue" instead of "cancel", at least
Please help us out by taking screenshots of empathy with the Ubuntu
theme and another theme where the time errors occur.
Also please add steps to get to your issue so we can follow it on our
computers in order to reproduce.

The same bug seems to be present in a Dutch setup (see screenshot
gcalctool_nl.png), because the Dutch word for "Undo" is "Ongedaan
maken", which makes the window too wide. That's why I've changed the
title.
The workaround "LANG=C gcalctool" works, but it's very user friendly.

Minor point, but another related way to make this issue appear (still requires
list mode, 33% zoom as above) is:
1. Right click mouse on a file or folder.
2. Without moving mouse cursor, press the "R" key to select rename from the
pop-up menu.

I agree Amoor; this bug is critical but it is the release of Maverick
