When a Web site communicates a calendar object (meeting, etc.) it offers to
download a .ics file.
Currently, the only way to insert that object into Evolution is to (1) Save the
.ics file to disk (2) In Evolution/Calendar, choose Import, selec

resolves the issue.
Prior to patch, indicator was not announcing new messages when set to
INBOX.
With patch messages are announced with sound and colour change when set
to INBOX. Message count increments as it should.

I just tested Maverick and it also has the bug.
So does anybody know if the fix that exists upstream can be backported?
I was unable to get a response from the developer in the upstream bug
report about this.

@Stephen: Do you mean that, when you follow the test case I've written
it fails or is the bug you have encountered still present? What can I do
to reproduce it myself? I can see the patch is applied and it did fix
the issue for some people according to the upstream bug report. I also
couldn't repro

Mmm... I must have done something wrong before, because it appears to be
working properly now.
I am using Zend Studio (Eclipse) to write to files in the .gvfs hidden
directory.

Frankly friends, this bug began as impacting those who have Pioneer
optical drives. Further, for those of us with Pioneer drives (I am the
OP and I have one), it seems like this is fixed in Maverick (and for
some with a patch or two for lucid just prior to maverick -0 see above

Reading the report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
panel/+bug/17787 might give a clue to the source of the problem. The
real culprit seems to be the transparency of the panel. The panel with
the wnck-applet needs to have both auto-hide and transparency enabled
for the memory lea
absolutely reproduceable. I have 8GB RAM, and evolution eats it away
within under 5 minutes
on my system Evolution starts with ~1GB virtual space, 71M RES, and in
seconds increases virtual to 8.5GB and RES to 800M
after kill -15 and restart, evolution requests around 4GB Virtual mem,
but keep ~
