OK, I managend to build my own kernel with the modified dsdt table. And
it works. So I think it's only a matter of the acpi tables and not a bug

I'm having the same issue with 32-bit Ubuntu 10.10 on Acer Aspire 5100
(AMD Turion x2 & Radeon 200M). Screen goes blank but the backlight never
turns off.

As the author of VIneyard, I can confirm that one of the extensions installed
caused this behaviour.
I'm of course sorry for the trouble and would like to point out that this is
already fixed and that the next version won't have this issue.

My problem is still the same. I also upgraded to Meerkat. If I open the
laptop lid and disable the laptop screen, the external screen will go to
sleep. But this is not the way it is should be.

again. I only noticed it after installing Dropbox, so this reinforces

@Brian thank you for your contribution. Seeing the % left for charging
or discharging is more useful, however it's not a fix for the bug
reported here. It also highlight this bug was initially the indicator
applet not knowing how to deal with the time values not being there, not
sure where to assig
for the love of god - it is still having to hit F3 dozens of times a day
vs gnome policies. too bad mark did not confirm that the fork hit gnome

Simply put, I click "Shut Down..." from the menu, nothing happens. I
have to go to the command line and enter in "sudo halt" to get my system
to turn off. This bug has only ever occurred with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid

I get the same problem with both Dolphin and Nautilus.
On the face of it this sounds to me like bug #393012 that was fixed in
Samba 3.4.1.
