I have two Ubuntu 10.04 computers that are experiencing this problem,
while a third computer seems to be working fine. From the working
desktop computer I can mount the public files share on my laptop and can
copy files back and forth just fine. However, from my laptop I get the
mount error message
Confirming the exact same problem. 10.04 i386.
This cropped up after I installed the Opera browser (10.11, deb from
their website) and played with Unity (added ppa:canonical-dx-team/une
and installed ubuntu-netbook-unity-default-settings package). I don’t
know which of the two caused that.

Ok, here is some more info:
# ls -l /lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper
-rwsr-xr-- 1 root avahi 47520 2010-03-30 18:43
/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper
# cat /etc/group | grep -e 108 -e avahi
messagebus:x:108:
avahi-autoipd:x:111:
avahi:x:112:
# cat /etc/passwd | grep -e messagebus -
If I change the UID for messagebus it will be the same id as haldaemon
so I don't think I should do this.
Really I can see nothing wrong with the ids. There are no duplicated
id's.
