If Empathy is going to present itself to the user as though it is
started (the Indicator panel), it should, in fact, be started. It is
entirely misleading to have the status indications there and not have
the actual application which sets them running. It's perfectly fine to
have a Startup Applic
I can confirm this. I shall add that this slowdown is barely noticeable
when terminal is small (eg. 15x5), but when I stretch it to full screen
it becomes almost unusable!

To make sure what happened: you ran the commands from Post 34 in Bug #572617
and the problem was solved but you lost a lot of settings. Then you ran the
command from Post 80 here and the problem is solved without loosing all your
settings (maybe just a few about your desktop session)

Hmm, my banshee can now play and import CDs, including CDDB lookup for
most albums. Sound-juicer and Brasero still crash though.

I tried following debugging procedure and got the following as a result.

I want to be clear on some of your "notes". nautilus-elementary is not a
duplicated effort, it's a different implementation from upstream exactly
like the patches you apply on your ubuntu version except it's a little
larger.

gdm doesn't take care of pam_umask settings.

the old version of gdm has been replaced in jaunty and the new gdm
doesn't handle the login photo the same way which deprecated this bug,
closing it, you can open a new bug if you get similar issues in the new
version though
