Hmm, I guess the link does work, I just didn't realize that their was a
strong of extra characters after the space. I still cannot figure out
why I am getting these error messages or what those extra characters are
there for, but maybe Evolution isn't doing anything wrong...

I'm running 10.04 and have this problem after setting resolution to higher one
with nvidia X server settings
I can get it to work again if I do "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop" then "sudo
shutdown -h now" then turn on the machine again
The problem is the resolution goes back to what it originally was

I tried the suggestion in comment #74, to disable the floppy in bios -
rebooted, plugged in my flash drive and...nothing :(
But, I no longer see the floppy drive icon. So, that's an improvement AND I
shaved several seconds on my boot time too!

In my case, with compiz enabled, the pointer theme changes only
partially, creating a weird "pointer theme Frankenstein". The new theme
is only notable when hovering over the "Minimise, Maximise, Close
window" buttons. And it stays the same after a restart. I can apply the
